Carlow University's Founders Fortnight Kicks Off with Carlow Day Celebration
 
Procession and Mass Takes Place on Wednesday, September 12

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Carlow University's Founders Fortnight, a two-week celebration of the university's heritage and founding by the Sisters of Mercy, will kick off with Carlow Day on Wednesday, September 12, 2012.

At 12:30 p.m. on September 12, as part of the celebration, a procession will begin at the Convent of Mercy, and proceed down the driveway, gathering along the way the Sisters of Mercy, students and faculty from the Campus School of Carlow University, and students, faculty and staff of the university. The procession will end at the St. Agnes Center of Carlow University, where an opening Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Harry E. Nichols, Carlow's chaplain, as well as the pastor of St. Stanislaus/St. Peters in the Strip District. During the Mass, student leaders will be commissioned and all will be given a special blessing for the school year.

The Opening Mass also signals the start of Mercy Founders Fortnight on campus and special events will take place on the Campus Green, and in the gardens  known as the Core Values Gardens  around campus.

Other events during Founders Fortnight include:

September 13  Screening of the film, "Miss Representation," sponsored by Women's Studies program at Carlow. Film begins at 6 p.m. in Kresge Theatre, fifth floor of Grace Library on the Carlow campus.

September 17  Opening reception for the art exhibit, "Holiness and the Feminine Spirit, the Art of Janet McKenzie." Reception and an opportunity to meet the artist begins at 7 p.m. in the lobby of Kresge Theatre, fifth floor of Grace Library.

September 21  Mercy Service Day  Carlow students, faculty, and staff put down the books and pick up tools to help social service agencies throughout Allegheny County.

September 24  Feast of Our Lady of Mercy.
