| Carlow University Participates in Trayvon Martin Teach-In and Walk for Justice |
| |
The Teach-In and Walk for Justice will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012
Pittsburgh, Pa. - Carlow University students, faculty, and staff will participate in a Teach-In and Walk for Justice on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:45 a.m. in honor of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed Florida teen who was killed by a neighborhood watch captain.
The walk will begin at Chesterfield Street and continue along Fifth Avenue to the St. Agnes Center of Carlow University, with a stop at Carlow's International Peace Pole, located at Fifth Avenue and the bottom of the Carlow driveway. The Peace Pole is a four-sided pole that bears in four languages the prayer, "May Peace Prevail on Earth."
The Teach-In will begin at noon in St. Agnes. Carlow faculty members and students will speak during the Teach-In.
"The event was sparked by the recent news about Trayvon Martin and we are also keenly aware of our own city injustices like that of Johnny Gammage and more recently, young Jordan Miles," said Barbara Johnson, director of Diversity Initiatives at Carlow. "So, our focus is on all of them and all the individuals who suffer injustices that we never hear about."
Participants are asked to wear red in solidarity for the blood lost. For more information, questions, or to get involved please contact: Barbara Johnson at, 412-578-6021 or bgjohnson@carlow.edu
