| Carlow University Receives Invitation to USCAA National Tournament |
| |
Basketball Team Will Compete March 6-10 at Penn State-Fayette
Pittsburgh, Pa. - This year, for the first time in its history, Carlow University will get a little taste of March Madness as its women's basketball team has received an invitation to the United States Collegiate Athletics Association (USCAA) National Tournament, which will be held at Penn State Fayette on March 6 through 10, 2012.
The USCAA announced seedings for the tournament on February 29. The Carlow University Celtics will be the number nine seed in the tournament and will play its first round game on Wednesday, March 7, against an unfamiliar team with a familiar name - the eighth-seeded Robert Morris University, the one located in Springfield, Ill. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at the Main Arena on the Penn State-Fayette campus in Uniontown, Pa.
The Celtics, who hold a dual membership in both the USCAA and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, finished the regular season with a 12-14 record and were ranked 11th in the final USCAA Coaches Poll through February 26. This is the first year of membership in the USCAA, and the first post-season appearance for Carlow basketball since the 1999-2000 season when the team qualified for the NAIA conference tournament.
This is the first ever appearance in a national tournament for the basketball program. The only other Carlow team to compete in a national event was the 1987 volleyball team, which qualified for the 32-team NAIA Championship Tournament.
The five-day event kicks off at the host hotel, Nemacolin Woodlands on Tuesday, March 6, at 7:15 p.m. with a dinner and awards banquet.
