Carlow University Collaborates with Carnegie Mellon University for Film Festival

Screening of "The Garden" on April 8 at Carlow; Film's Director to Speak

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Carlow University will be participating in the "Faces of Globalization" 2010 Carnegie Mellon International Film Festival with a screening of the documentary The Garden on April 8, 2010 at 7:15 p.m. in Room 107 of A.J. Palumbo Hall of Science and Technology, located on the corner of Fifth and Craft Avenues, on the Carlow campus.

"Carlow is pleased to collaborate with Carnegie Mellon and screen this documentary," says Katie Hogan, PhD, director of Women's Studies at Carlow University. "The Garden poses a central question for all of us: If you were told to give up, would you? Or would you fight back?"

The Garden is the story of a 14-acre urban community farm located in South Central Los Angeles, and explores challenging questions about liberty, equality, and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable among us.

"At a moment when economic insecurity abounds --as rising food prices, energy and environmental crisis confront us at seemingly every turn --The Garden tells an essential story and serves as powerful symbol of the larger world around us," says director Scott Hamilton Kennedy, who is scheduled to appear and answer questions after the screening.
