Carlow University Brings Catapult Program to Campus

Women's Studies Program Collaborates with Women and Girls Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Carlow University's Women's Studies Program is collaborating with the Women and Girls Foundation (WGF) to bring the Catapult program to Carlow in March in honor of Women's History Month. The Catapult program, which will be held Thursday March 4, 2010 at A.J. Palumbo Hall of Science and Technology, Room 107 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., trains girls and women in the art of negotiation.

The Catapult program is an educational, hands-on-training program that introduces young women to the topic of negotiation. This evening's program will discuss the historical and social barriers for women regarding negotiation and identify opportunities and strategies for negotiation in everyday life, school, and work.

Catapult is a program of The Women and Girls Foundation developed in collaboration with PROGRESS at Carnegie Mellon University and Fulcrum Advisors. The Catapult Curriculum is based on the groundbreaking research of Dr. Linda Babcock, first published in her books Women Don't Ask and Ask for It. Catapult was developed with support from The Fine Family Foundation, Buhl Foundation, and Eden Hall Foundation.

All undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, professors, and staff in higher education in the Pittsburgh region are invited. Online registration will begin on February 1, 2010. Tickets are $5 for faculty and staff and $3 for students. Student fees will be refunded on the day of the program to those who attend. Food will also be provided.

The event is sponsored by Carlow's Women's Studies Program and the Women and Girls Foundation. Co-sponsors include Carlow's Honors Program, Student Affairs, and Career Services.
