Judge Stephanie Domitrovich to Give Commencement Address at Carlow University
 
Erie County Judge Will Address Graduates at Her Alma Mater

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Honorable Stephanie Domitrovich, judge of the Sixth Judicial District of Pennsylvania (Erie County) and a Carlow University alumna, will give the Commencment Address at Carlow on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 1 p.m. in the Rosemary Heyl Theatre in Antonian Hall, located on the Carlow campus.

Judge Domitrovich was first elected to the bench in Erie County in 1989. Prior to her election, she served as assistant Erie County solicitor and engaged in private practice. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Carlow University in 1976, where she graduated summa cum laude, and earned her JD from Duquesne University School of Law in 1979. She has also earned two master's degrees and a doctorate in judicial studies from the University of Nevada, Reno - where she became the first graduate to earn a PhD in judicial studies.

Judge Domitrovich is a past president of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, a past co-chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Task Force to Ensure Gender Fairness, a past secretary of the National Association of Women Judges, a member of the Board of Trustees for Gannon University in Erie, Pa., and a past president of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Inns of Court. She currently serves and was elected vice chair of the National Conference of State Trial Judges, immediate past chair of Children and Family Court Committee for the National Conference of State Trial Judges, and was elected to serve as the American Bar Association's (ABA) 3rd District Zone Representative for West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. Judge Domitrovich is also immediate past chair of the Unified Family Court Coordinating Council for the ABA. In 1996, the National Judicial College selected her to be a participant of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) sponosored program to educate judges in the former Soviet Republic nations of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in the development of their judicial systems.

Judge Domitrovich also teaches for the National Judical College, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and Gannon University. She has been a speaker on numerous occasions for the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners' Daubert Seminars and has presented her dissertation to the Jurisprudence Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and to the Law and Society at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. In April 2007, the Women's Law Association presented her with the Women of the Year Award. In February 2009, she received the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania President's Martin Luther King Award for her outstanding commitment to enhancing access to opportunity for all members of the community in Erie, Pa. In May 2009, Carlow University presented her and seven other alumnae with Carlow Laureate Awards, the highest honor bestowed on Carlow alumnae/i for outstanding achievements in their fields.

More than 140 students will receive bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees during the ceremony.

The day will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a Baccalaureate Mass in the Mother of Mercy Chapel in the Sisters of Mercy Convent adjacent to the Carlow campus. Reverend Kris D. Stubna, Secretary for Education for the Diocese of Pittsburgh will be the celebrant for the Mass. Carlow students, faculty, and staff will serve as liturgical ministers.
