| Carlow University Announces Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program |
| |
Second Doctoral Program at Carlow Is a Low-Residency Nursing Program
Pittsburgh, Pa. - Carlow University will offer a new doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree, a low-residency nursing program that will begin in August 2009.
"The focus of the DNP degree is leadership. It's for nurses who want to gain the skills to make effective changes in a variety of healthcare delivery settings," said Clare Hopkins, PhD, director of the School of Nursing at Carlow. "This degree would be valuable for someone in nursing education, administration, or advanced practice."
The DNP program is open to students who have a current RN license, a bachelor of science in nursing, and a master's degree in nursing. It will include online classes, as well as a core class session for one Saturday a month each term. The 27-credit program can be completed in as few as 16 months by taking two or three classes a term. Three electives from graduate-level offerings can be chosen according to the student's personal interest.
"The program is low residency, which includes one Saturday class each month at Carlow's Oakland campus," said Peggy Slota, DNP, the director of the nursing leadership graduate programs. "The face-to-face setting provides an opportunity for collaborative group learning, where students can share their professional and clinical experiences and learn from others' experiences as well."
Priority applications for admission are due by May 1, 2009. Applications received after May 1, 2009 will be considered as space permits. For more information, please contact Graduate Admissions at 412-578-8764 or via email at gradstudies@carlow.edu.
